We Will Remember Them
It was very reassuring today to see a crowd of several 1000 attend the ANZAC Dawn Service at the Cenotaph in Wellington this morning. To me services such as these are evidence of the underlying Kiwi Spirit and a deep sense of respect for the sacrifices others have made on our behalf. John Campbell of the RSA made this point poignantly in his address this morning.
Personally, I realise that I do not fully comprehend the sacrifices and horrors of war and indeed hope that neither I nor other young Kiwis will ever again be required to gain such comprehension.
Freedom, peace and democracy are the legacy of the ANZACs and if nothing else it is our duty to uphold these values – as Kiwis do.
